Crochet Doilies Wall Decor

A dash of crochet on the wall. π€π€
Inspired by grandma doilies, built on trifted yarn.
The Idea
- I was inspired by grandma doilies and how people like to hang them as wall art. Since I didnβt have any doilies on hand, I made my own crochet pieces. βΊοΈ
- If you want to use vintage pieces instead, check Vintage Crochet Doilies on Embroidery Hoops Collage for mounting steps.
Hoops
- You are going to need bambu embroidery hoops in mixed sizes, six in total. The biggest one I sed was about 14", and the smallest about 4".
- I split the hoops and used the outer rings and inner rings as separate frames, so one hoop made two crochet circles. Heads up: inner rings are flimsier and want to warp under tension; support the circle as you tighten and go slow. You can keep each hoop intact if you prefer, youβll just need more hoops.
- I used my own stash (yes, I have a stash of hoops π), but mixed-size hoop sets are easy to find at Amazon.ca, Michaels Canada, or any craft shop.
Crochet Materials
- I used black, gray, silver, cream, and white yarn thrifted from Value Village. My favorite kind: cheap mystery skeins with no labels. π I also mixed in some scraps from other past projects. Most of it was fine or light weight yarn worked with 3β4 mm hooks.
- The buttons at the center of the designs were from a Dollarama black-and-white theme button bag.
Patterns
Medium Flower
- This is the free pattern Neverending Wildflower. I worked the last round right onto the hoop with single crochet stitches.
- This pattern is great for projects like this: the rounds repeat, so you choose how many to make. π To see what I mean, you can check it out two other projects I made with this pattern: the Tote Bag Neverending Blooming made with a bigger version of the flower, and a fridge magnet with just a few rounds.

Cross Stitch
- For a more personal touch, I cross-stitched two name initials in small 4" hoops (used the entire hoop for this to be able to fix the fabric π).
- The letter pattern is from a LoveCrafts free chart.
- The fabric is 14-count Aida, and the thread is DMC 310 (black). I stitched with six strands instead of two for an extra pop, and used 4 squares for each stitch.
